On 5th October, 2024, the event “Wired to Create – Orthodontic Art Vaganza” was organized by the Department of Orthodontics, SRM Dental college, Ramapuram as part of the National Orthodontic Day celebrations,2024. This flagship event was a unique blend of creativity and Orthodontics, celebrating the artistic side of orthodontic practice and showcasing the innovative use of materials and concepts from orthodontics in art. The event served to foster creativity and demonstrate the artistic potential of undergraduate students while also raising awareness about orthodontics in a fun, engaging manner.

Event Highlights

1. Art Exhibition: The highlight of the event was the Orthodontic Art Exhibition, where BDS students displayed their orthodontics-themed artworks. The art pieces were created using orthodontic materials such as braces, wires, elastics, and impression materials. Students had crafted intricate wire art based on different themes highlighting the dual use of orthodontic materials in both treatment and art. The judges evaluated the entries based on creativity, craftsmanship and conceptual relevance.
2. Lucky draw: The Lucky draw event was arranged to engage students and provide entertainment while rewarding participants with exciting prizes.

Outcome and Feedback

The event “Wired to Create – Orthodontic Art Vaganza” was a resounding success. The undergraduate students actively participated showcasing their creative potential and deepening their understanding of orthodontic tools. Faculty members were pleased with the engagement and students appreciated the break from conventional learning, expressing interest in similar events in the future. The Judges’ Panel which included senior professors praised the students for their innovative approaches of combining art and orthodontics. The event concluded with an awards ceremony where the best artworks were recognized.

The “Wired to Create – Orthodontic Art Vaganza” proved to be a unique and enriching experience for all involved. It not only celebrated National Orthodontic Day but also highlighted the creativity inherent in orthodontic practice. The event succeeded in inspiring students to look at orthodontics through a new lens encouraging them to combine scientific knowledge with artistic creativity.
