  • An emergency situation has arisen due to the development of RESISTANCE TO ANTIBIOTICS. Therefore antibiotics are NOT effective any more against microbes like bacteria, virus etc.,
  • This “ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE” is a LIFE THREATENING CATASTROPHE, due to which deaths are occurring world wide even from treatable infections.
  • Many countries have included this GLOBAL CRISIS in their emergency list. They have formulated a strategy to combat this problem.
  • The main reason for this burning problem is due to MISUSE of antibiotics by medical personnel and public. But they are NOT AWARE of this very serious issue.
  • Therefore, Pharmacology department, SRM Dental College, Ramapuram Campus, SRM University has initiated this important Awareness Programme on ‘Antibiotic Resistance’, under the guidance of Dr. R. Shivakumar, MD, Ph.D., Chairman, SRM University, Ramapuram and Trichy Campuses.
  • Being a Pharmacologist he was instrumental in organizing this program in many Phases from January 2013. We are the FIRST and the ONLY Medical Institution in Tamilnadu to have initiated this important Program for the well being of mankind, for a social purpose and it is going to be CONTINUOUS PROCESS.
  • We have enrolled as members of ‘ ANTIBIOTIC ACTION TEAM’, whose head office is in United Kingdom.

  • Clinical Trials & Development of NEW ANTIBIOTICS has come to a stand still. Antibiotic Resistance coupled with Non – Availability of new Antibiotics has made this crisis doubly serious.
  • Therefore we have to tackle this serious problem of Antibiotic Resistance on a war – footing, so that the existing Antibiotics continue to act on microbes.
These programmes should serve as an eye opener, so that the “Golden Era of Antibiotics will not come to an end”.
