OVERVIEW OF OUR SCREENING CAMP

The department of public health dentistry, SRM Dental College, Ramapuram granted us permission to conduct a dental awareness camp among the school students to enlighten them with the knowledge of various aspects of dental hygiene and highlight the importance of the same. The camp was held at Santhome Higher secondary school, Mylapore on 13.07.22 by a team of junior year undergraduate students guided by the staffs. The team left the college by 11:15 am and reached the venue. A dental screening setup was made at the school premises thereafter. A total of 400 participants between the age of 12-14 years were examined for oral hygiene, dental caries and various other related oral health issues. The camp also included dental awareness talk, educating students about common dental ailments with emphasis on brushing techniques, tooth decay, gum diseases and measures used to prevent them. The students were also made aware of the eating patterns and food choices which can cause the same.

The students seemed cheerful to participate and interacted with us to know more about oral health and how to maintain it. The respected school staff gave positive feedback and thanked us and the college for such a service.

ELEMENTS OF OUR CAMP

  • Oral hygiene instruction and brushing techniques explained to all the patients in the camp.
  • After the demonstration, the patients were made to imitate the same.
  • Oral screening was done to assess the oral hygiene, dental caries, periodontal problems, malocclusion, fractures and other dental anomalies.
  • All queries regarding the brushing techniques and oral hygiene were explained individually to the patients in detail.
