The mandatory academic curriculum formatted by Dental Council of India (DCI) for BDS is strictly followed by SRM Dental college, Ramapuram campus.
The curriculum has been designed to train the dental graduates to acquire adequate knowledge, necessary skills and reasonable attitudes which are required for carrying out all activities appropriate to general dental practice involving prevention, diagnosis and treatment of anomalies and diseases of teeth, mouth, jaws and associated tissues. The graduates are also trained understand the concept of community oral health education and be able to participate in the rural health care programmes existing in the country.

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
The students must be aware of the Vision and Mission of the University. They should be familiar with their departmental goals. Students should take all efforts to enable their department to achieve these goals.
The following Rules and Regulations based on the present University regulations would be followed. These are subject to changes effected by the Institution from time to time. Violation of rules & regulations of the college will be strictly dealt with.
Punctuality and Attendance
- Students must attend college on all working days and should be on time for lecture classes, labs, tests / exams and be regular in submitting records & assignment. Students should not take leave on days of terminal exams and during model practical exams
- No leave shall be granted for the first working day of the year.
- Irregular attendance, habitual negligence in college work, dishonesty and serious misconduct will lead to disciplinary action
- No student can leave the college premises during working hours, without the permission of the Principal.
- Students should bring with them necessary instruments, records books and writing materials required.
Ragging
- Ragging of any kind is strictly forbidden and severe action will be taken against those who indulge in such activities as per the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Ragging Act no.7 of 1997
Discipline
- Students should maintain good conduct inside and outside the classes
- Politeness and courtesy are expected from the students. They should maintain high moral and spiritual standards.
- Students should behave in a proper manner wherever they may go. eg. For observation to other institutions.
- Any reported or observed objectionable conduct of the student inside the college or outside the campus will invite disciplinary action
- Class rooms and surroundings shall be kept neat and tidy by the students
- Care must be taken of all college property. Students are forbidden to write or scribble on the wall/ furniture or dirty the class rooms or damage any material. Anyone who sees someone causing damage to the college property should report the matter to office. Parent/ guardian will have to compensate for any willful damage done to college property.
- Lab equipment should be handled carefully as per laid down instructions and generally with precaution. Students will be responsible for any breakage or loss of the articles, which is used for demonstration.
- Students must maintain strict silence in the Classes / Laboratory.
- The students of each year are divided into groups of ten. Each group has one faculty member as student’s counsellor assigned to monitor the overall progress of the students and help them in their academic pursuit.
Dress code
- Students should wear a white apron in the lecture classes/laboratory/clinical area.
- Male students are to wear trousers and tucked-in shirts with collar. T-shirts and jeans are not permitted.
- Female students are expected to wear SalwarKameeze or Chudidars with duppattas neatly pinned or Sarees. Half sarees, skirts, jeans, frocks or any other indecent tight fitting dresses are not permitted.
Identity cards
- Identity cards must be worn while boarding the college bus and throughout the presence in the campus. Students will not be permitted inside the campus without Identity cards.
Cell phones
- Mobile phones are not allowed in college premises.
Leave rules
- It is compulsory that a leave letter in the approved form (Refer to Format of Leave Letter) should be submitted for every day / period of absence.
- For applying leave more than 3 days, a separate leave letter format has to be followed, which is available in academic cell.
- Absence without prior permission or leave letter is not allowed.
- Leave letters should be signed by parent / guardian / hostel warden. For hostellers, Medical leave can be availed on production of leave letter duly accompanied by medical certificate produced from SRM General Clinic Medical Officer.
