DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH DENTISTRY, SRM DENTAL COLLEGE, RAMAPURAM conducted the program, in collaboration with UDHAVUM ULLAM SOCIAL SERVICE ORGANIZATION on Feb 4; 2021.
World Cancer Day is the one singular initiative under which the entire world can unite together in the fight against the global cancer epidemic. It takes place every year on 4 February. World Cancer Day aims to save millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and education about cancer, and pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action against the disease.
ACTIVITIES DONE IN THE PROGRAM ARE
1.Oral screening for all the participants who attented the program.
2.As majority of the participants in the camp were female and Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among post menopausal age group and breast cancer awareness was given and Self breast examination was explained and an animated video on self breast examination was projected.
All the participants were trained to check for any :
- Lump in the breast or underarm (armpit)
- Swelling or thickening of all or part of the breast
- Dimpling or skin irritation of breast skin
- Localized, persistent breast pain
- Redness, scaliness or thickening of the nipple or breast skin.
- Nipple discharge (other than breast milk)
- Any change in the size or shape of the breast.
Oral hygiene instructions and brushing techniques explained for all the participants who attended the program.
Harmful effects of tobacco and Oral cancer awareness was given.
All queries regarding their oral health was explained individually in detail.
Placards prepared for World Cancer Day and explained about each placard
in detail.
